Mediterranean music
From the Albanese isopoliphony to the Valencian cant d’estil, from the intrincate melodies of the Turkish Gypsies to the melismatic singing of the inland Spain, the Mediterranean music is not an homogeneous whole. But the Mediterranean sea connects our cultures, including mine, for millennia.
Moreover, migrations, forced in many of the occasions, took, for instance, the Sephardic Jewish from Spain to the Ottoman empire and to Morocco. War campaigns in the XIV century the made the Catalonian talked nowadays, under the name of Algueres Catalan, in a part of Italy. And centuries after, the fighting between Greece and Turkey from 1919 onwards produced hundreds of thousands of refugees, that would be the breeding ground for the developement of the modern rebetika.
Our connections and our differences produce a rich legacy of shapes of art. Find below a bunch of our dearest Mediterranean proposals for your program and other needs.
