BIO

This project by Alkis and Marina is a creation that vindicates the value of music as an aesthetic experience and as a vector of dialogue between East and West, between femininity and masculinity and between generations.

The dramatic history of Asia Minor, with the Great Catastrophe as a turning point in the Greek-Turkish rift, had radical consequences for music. Instruments considered oriental, such as the qanun and the oud, were banned in Greece for decades. This ushered in the modern rebetiko era, with the bouzouki as the predominant instrument. But centuries of cultural exchange cannot be erased. Join us in tying the thread of music, over time, over borders.
