Our protagonist of today, Israel Shorr, was from a Hassidic family so I will dedicate a part of this MBS to the Hassidism.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">? But Schorr is not as famous as others, because he died quite young\u00a0at the very early age of 49 on April 9th 1935. This way, he was not a witness of the horror that would trap his mother land.<\/p>\n<p>He was born in 1886 in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Khyriv,+%C3%93blast+de+Le%C3%B3polis,+Ucrania,+82060\/@49.5332535,22.8325966,14z\/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x473b90b6c395d173:0x914b464500d1c3e2!8m2!3d49.5333606!4d22.8520262\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Khyriv<\/a>, or Chyrov, that was at that time in the Polish Galicia that was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire\u00a0and that now is Ukraine. But other sources say that he was born in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Ryman%C3%B3w,+Polonia\/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x473c3f6593b63d61:0xaaa6e81440fd21c7?sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjC2q2qqqLtAhWM2BQKHeqWCxsQ8gEwFXoECBMQAQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryman\u00f3w<\/a>, two hours to the West from Khyriv, that is currently Poland.<\/p>\n<p>He started singing as a boy soprano and became the official cantor in L&#8217;vov in 1904. He succeed his distant relative, the Hazzan Boruch Schorr, who was very appreciated because of his improvisations and his innovative compositions. There is some nice information about Boruch in this book,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.es\/books?id=VuOZAJzvzOQC&amp;pg=PA65&amp;lpg=PA65&amp;dq=Boruch+Schorr+improvisation&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=sOYwkWdq9K&amp;sig=ACfU3U1mPdgeT860ZvVfaTG7qMtcyWKB3Q&amp;hl=es&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjB0O64rqLtAhX1DmMBHT62ABsQ6AEwDHoECAEQAg#v=onepage&amp;q=schorr&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Discovering Jewish Music<\/em><\/a>, by Marsha Bryan Edelman.<\/p>\n<p>He served also in Brno, Krak\u00f3w, Piestany and Zurich before emigrating to the USA in 1924, thanks to a visa for artist that he got with the help of Solomon Bloom. This man deserves attention too, his life is absolutely fascinating. You can start with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/babayagamusic.com\/Encyclopedic-Dictionary-Ethnic-Arts\/Ethnic-Music-and-Dance-Performers\/Sol-Bloom-Loved-Middle-Eastern-Dance.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There at the USA, Schorr\u00a0served in synagogues in Chicago and New York.\u00a0Shorr was a composer as well as a cantor himself and one of the most famous pieces for hazzanut art,\u00a0Sheyibone Beit Hamikdash, has done by him. You can find many renditions of this piece in Youtube. But my favourite is the one by the aforementioned Moishe Oysher, of whom I talked\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapamundimusica.com\/en\/musicbeforeshabbat\/moisheoyshersheyibone-beit-hamikdash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in this previous edition<\/a>. In that edition I already talked about\u00a0the founder of Hassidism, Baal Shem Tov, who made many sippurim, many tales, to teach in an easy and appealing way the ethics and practices of this new line of Judaism. It you are not familiar with it, this video is very nice. Maybe I am a little childish?\u00a0? Friedman on the web\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chareidi.org\/archives5765\/MSI65features.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chareidi<\/a>\u00a0and there you can find also a part of the poem: &#8220;In his tremendous mercy may [our] merciful Father [&#8230;] recall in mercy the holy\u00a0<em>kehillos\u00a0<\/em>that gave up their lives in sanctification of [His] Name [&#8230;]&#8221;. The kehillos are the congregations. For the full lyrics in English, check this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20060104211432\/http:\/\/yizkor.ort.org:8081\/html\/yiz_avprayer_th.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">web page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is more information about the use of the poem in Shabbat,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/community\/tefilllah\/av-harachamim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on this site<\/a>\u00a0of the Ortodox Union.<\/p>\n<p>I found a brief historical explanation\u00a0about the destruction of the Jewish communities in Germany by the Crusaders in XI century and the use of this poem on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shulinthewood.com\/devarim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this page<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0St John&#8217;s Wood and The Saatchi Synagogues:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>&#8220;Its origins lie in the wake of the First Crusade. Many Jewish communities in Germany were decimated as mobs found an outlet for their religious zeal in killing Jews before making their way to the Holy Land to wrest it from the Muslims. Thousands of men, women and children lost their lives in the communities of the Rhineland. Mainz, Worms, Speyer were ravaged over the course of a few weeks as the Crusaders made their way down Europe.
